The Amazon Kindle – Is It Any Good?

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

Amazon have been promoting their Kindle to be THE eBook reader that everyone should have. This may not happen, though Amazon are really going out to show the kindle is way ahead of the other eBook readers.

The size and weight of the Kindle is certainly something they can be proud of. It is 5.3 inches x 7.5 inches and weighs in at only 8.7 ounces. Small and compact, you can take it anywhere and use it anywhere. The battery life of the Kindle is quite lengthy, it has a reading capability of up to 2 weeks without using the WI-FI and 10 days with the WIFI active. Charging of the Kindle can also be done quite fast so without waiting too long you can be up and running again.

The Kindle also has the E-Ink which is a nice feature. It is said to mimic the reading of a real book and is keeping it’s word with that. For those of you who have trouble reading eBooks on an LCD screen for a long period of time, E-Ink is the solution.

There is a small downside to the Kindle and that is it’s lack of colour support. Everything will appear in black, white and shades of grey, this could be a setback for those of you that want to view anything colourful on the Kindle.

Flipping through pages was a minor drawback of the previous version of the Kindle and it was also quite slow. The touch screen function was not very good and could interfere with the reading of your book. The new version now has a solution with buttons on the side that are there to make the page turning function more user friendly and is built with comfort in mind.

You can surf the internet on the Kindle with it’s built in WI-FI capability, but due to the lack of colour support the pages will only display in monochrome. This can be a downside to the Kindle and sometimes you wonder if it would have been better off without it’s support for WI-FI.

The internal memory has a storage capability of up to 3500 eBooks so you won’t find yourself having to remove older books in order to download new ones. Apps are also available to enable you to read a Kindle eBook on the iPhone or PC.

Besides reading your eBooks and (if you really need to) surfing the internet, there is not much more you can do with the Kindle. Amazon have not yet introduced any kind of open standard so there will be no apps within it. 3rd party applications should be introduced in the near future but given the specifications and restrictions the amount of apps is going to be small.

Most of the books you read will have Digital Rights Management (DRM) on them. Some of you might remember the scene Amazon caused when they automatically deleted a book banned from Amazon from every single Kindle that bought that book. So there is a small issue with privacy and what Amazon can do to your books inside Kindle.

Why not visit our Kindle store today for the best Kindle deals and accessories. Also available at our Kindle store are various Kindle e-books and e-newspapers.

The Benefits Of An EBook

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

As the world moves faster and faster finding the time to sit still and read a book becomes harder. People are chasing kids or career goals and rarely take the time to do the things they once enjoyed. Reading used to be one of those things.

Lugging around a real book can be quite the hindrance and most individuals only take one with them at a time, as a result of that fact. Just envision the weight of carrying five different books with you on vacation, for example, besides the additional weight there are additional fees that go with that weight. An eBook solves this dilemma. EBooks can be read anywhere. From waiting rooms, to airports, to park benches an eBook can be conveniently carried. They allow a person to have as many books with them as fit on their electronic device.

For some reading is a relaxing activity that they can use to wind down, while for others reading is a hobby. These days there seems to be less and less dedicated time for reading anything. Now more so than ever people are always on the go. Making books more portable is the best invention that happened for the avid reader. It is way more convenient to carry one device with multiple books on it than it is to carry several different books.

The cost of owning an eBook is actually cheaper than a physical copy. Some publishers are even including a free digital copy of newly purchased physical books. Subscribing to an e-reader service is the most cost effective option in the long run, and will more than pay for itself for someone that truly loves books. This allows for new eBooks can to be downloaded to a portable device, at will, as long as a wireless internet connection is available.

With less weight, portability and a cheaper price there aren’t any real reasons not to own at least a few eBooks. An eBook provides a wonderful solution for the dilemma of transporting books that all people have faced at some point. The benefits of an eBook are endless as they truly give a person the mobility to be anywhere in the world while still enjoying a great book.

Why You Should Buy A Kindle

Saturday, August 28th, 2010

Whether you are sixteen or one hundred and six a Kindle makes a lot of sense. The eBook from Amazon has exceptional value for school, travel, conservation, frugality and fun. And besides, it is very cool.

Imagine having a back pack that does not weigh more than a small pony. Carrying the entire contents of your class book list in one feather light device is nothing short of amazing. Of course, it also holds your music and any pod casts you might want to add. The choice of G3 or Wireless does not hurt either.

Travelers swear by and on their Kindles. Now instead of an airplane book you can haul your whole library. If you are bored with one book, there are plenty to choose from. And now that they are not so unusual, you do not have to explain it to every seatmate.

Every time you get another book electronically, another tree breathes a sigh of relief. Another bookcase is not needed to hold your latest reading craze. And you get the paper without the paper.

Now let us talk about saving money. Even the library means using transportation or time. Electronic books are less expensive and the number of free books is simply uncountable. Bookcases are unneeded and the walls are now free for art and other things.

One of the fun aspects of a Kindle is seeing what other electronic book readers are carrying around. Friends are swapping book lists on Facebook. Families can share a book on up to six of these on one account.

But the real fun is getting a book in seconds. Yes it can be a financial hazard to have a book you just heard about in your hands in seconds. But it is gratifying too. And do not forget about all those trees you have saved.

Fighting For The Best Technology

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

Cutting edge technology can make or break a country, a company, a life. None can escape its slow conquest. The world clapped in astonishment at the marvels of black and white soundless movies, room-sized computers that could do simple math equations, and party line phones. Then came the upgrading. T.V. had sound, computers shrunk to large block-sized, phones became chunky and portable. Today there are thin plasma screens, computers that can complete millions of mind-boggling tasks and yet are weigh as much as a book, and tiny cell phones that can surf the web.

It seems as if everyone is in a race to have the latest, fastest technology. A student upgrades his computer, but is devastated when he realizes someone else got the same upgrade only with a wider screen. Another person proudly flaunts a blackberry phone only to be crushed when her friend starts texting on his iphone. A friend gets a kindle for Christmas but feels cheated because she didn’t get an ipad. Everyone wants to be with it when dealing with technology. The number of people that refuse to participate in the race for the smallest and the best gadgets is gradually dwindling.

Too much of technology posses potential threats some claim. True. People that play computer games in class or at work, facebook stalk everyone they know, or that twitter every thirty minutes are wasting valuable time. Yet, technology has benefited society in a variety of ways. Without technology there would be no communication, no quick plane rides, no emails, movies, powerpoints, and a lot of people would have much poorer health.

New inventions, advancements, and discoveries are made daily. What started as a few humans struggling to survive in the wilderness has now become a world bustling with millions of people all in a hurry to make money and upgrade their technology.

While most believe technology is essential, occasionally even the most techno-savvy individuals fail to use technology that really matters. Laptops are great, so are cell phones, and ipods, but those things only advance someone’s individual lifestyle. Some neglect perhaps the most important technology available, home security. Home security allows individuals to sleep peacefully at night, knowing all their technology, is safe, but most importantly, they are safe.

Set Your Inner Author Free

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

It’s amazing. As of today I’ve been writing books for 30+ years, and selling them online for nearly 15 years, and previously only in print through selling foreign licenses, or printing them myself, advertising them, and selling them either online or in classes I taught.

There is a better way. If you have something you want to say, you can put it in print, or sell it online and there is no difficult about doing that. If you don’t know where to start, there are writing coaches that can give you a hand by discussing topics, subjects, and what you are passionate about.

Just tell a provider of services what you want to say, and they’ll write it for you. There is a little company we know of that does that for English writers, www.lifeimprovementbooks.com. And another for Spanish writers, www.ipublicidades.com . And they have done work for several authors around the world for several years. They have a team of writers in English, Spanish, and French that can help you tell your story. Many companies exist to help beginning authors, and the ones that help that most are the ones who ‘draw out’ what you want to tell your readers easily.

If you’ve already created a draft of your book, you are more than 50% there. The next step involves editing, proofreading, refining, and creating a proper layout for book printing or putting it online or on Kindle.

With these professional services type of company, the layout of your own book is relatively inexpensive, takes only a few days, and can be delivered ready to print to the printer of your choice. Don’t know which printer to use? Or, only need a very few copies, or just one copy of a special book for a friend – not a problem. Don’t know what size to print. Here’s a general rule of thumb: Workbooks for workshops, A4 or 8.5″ x 11″, Executive paperback of technical value 7″ x 10″, Highest Quality Paperback for Self-Help or Fiction 6″x9″, Mass market paperback 5.5″ x 8.5″ or smaller. And yes, you can get just ONE copy printed if that’s all that you need.

In today’s book publishing industry, if you need a private edition for your family tree and history for 10 members – not a problem. If you are going to teach a private class to 4 students and you need a 500 page manual – not a problem. If you want to sell one book at a time from your website, to a person interested in it in Timbuktu – not a problem.

And if you want your book on Amazon.com for sale – or Amazon Kindle books – also not a problem. The world is changing and the book printing and distribution industry as well. And if you just want one copy for the world to remember you by, just sign it and put it in your time capsule – not a problem.

From writing, to editing, proofing, translating, typesetting, printing books, distributing online, or through Amazon – the world has changed. And the author inside of your that may have been restricted by past technological restrictions has been, set free so you can share your wisdom with the rest of the world, one copy at a time.

Each person has their own book hidden inside of them. Tell your own story – without knowing how to type. Grab a totally unique version of this article from the Uber Article Directory

Electronic Books: The Future of Reading

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

Only one or two days gone I was in my fathers cellar, going thru my old storage of books making an attempt to pick which ones I had more of an emotional attachment too. I was moving across states with the help of a pal and his pickup, so I had to tame my inner pack rat and take just what I felt was important, things I’d basically remember not taking and regret it. Over my 20+ years I’ve picked up a far amount of books, there had been a point in my teenage years where I could easily devour two or three a week. Due to the life of a lonesome loser.

After I filled two cardboard boxes with my most fave novels, I could not help thinking about my mates new “toy”-an Amazon ‘Kindle’. An e-book rising in renown that downloads books direct from Amazon’s Whispernet.

The most recent Kindle model, Kindle DX costs just about $500, I could not believe he was willing to drop that sort of scratch to read the same books he could buy for a bit less than 1 / 4 of that cost. How could it most likely mimic the intimate connection you can get with a good paper paged novel? Especially older ones, with yellowed pages and a thick, musty smell.

Ebooks had a tiny surge in appreciation in the early 2000’s, but many were only programed in one format. So if you were the owner of an ebook, and your fave novel just came out on a rivals Ebook-you would just have to handle it.

Thanks to the Kindle’s acceptance, many large companies decided to attempt to join the competition. Barnes & Noble introduced they’re “Nook”, which is first to be based on the ‘Android’ platform, and has a MicroSD enlargement slot for extra storage. Except for being much cheaper Kindle alternative, it can be hacked to add applications like Pandora, a twitter customer, Google Reader, Facebook, and a web browser.

In France, Bookeen released the ultra light Cybook Opus, featuring a paper-like high contrast appearance that may really be read in direct sunlight. When the Cybook Opus is connected up to your PC it registers as a typical USB mass storage device , so you can simply copy books without special drivers.

With the releasing of Apple’s iPad, came the releasing of the iBooks application. Aside from having all the features of the Kindle, it could also implant video. Still lacks USB ports, however.

While my pal raved about his costly, tiny, electronic library, I couldn’t avoid thinking how silly it was to think that a small, thin contraption able to download books could ever replace hundreds of years of paper paged history. It only took up less room, you could download any book you wanted when you wanted, generations yet to come will surely be cheaper and better quality…I stopped my train of thought and took a good look at my stacks of physical books, all together they weighed a ton and took up so much space. Will this generation see the passing of broadcast word? I’m sure people in the sixties could not imagine life without their favorite 12-inch vinyl records, now those same folks carry the whole discography of their favorite artist on an itty bitty iPod.

10 years ago T.V’s were chunky monstrosities, now they’re paper thin with such superb quality you can count the pores on somebody’s’s jaw. A decade gone video games were still pixelated and featured stocky characters with jerky movements, now it’s essentially interactive animation. In ten years, will my ‘bookcase’ just become ’shelves’? Featuring one e-book and whatever knick knacks I throw on there to get rid of the empty space? What will happen to libraries? My fave used book store?

As I ultimately closed the cardboard boxes and pressed down the packing tape, I could not help but think how convenient it would be to just slip my fave book ‘The Stand’ in my back pocket while having the rest of my library stored on my C : drive.
